American Muffins
Despite their history, most muffins today have their origin in America. In 1874, the young Samuel Bath Thomas sailed from England to America with sizable provisions from his mom in the baggage. He settled in New York and was hired at a bakery. In just a few years Samuel had saved enough money to start his own bakery. The rest is history.Samuel’s bakery on Ninth Avenue became famous because of his mother’s muffins recipe. The fame of the new delicacy spread rapidly. Soon Samuel’s pastries were sold in all the towns nearby, in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens. Samuel Bath Thomas delicacies are still sold today, but in enormous amounts over the whole of North America.
